How About Less Guns?

Yesterday there was a shooting on the campus of Lone Star College outside of Houston, Texas.
Harris County Sheriff's Maj. Armando Tello says the shooting was the result of an altercation between two people, and at least one was a student. He said a maintenance man was injured in the crossfire.

Tello said another person was taken to a hospital for medical reasons.

Both men in the dispute reportedly pulled out guns and shot at each other.
It should be noted that Lone Star has a "2nd Amendment Academy." Yeah, I know. But this is Texas, after all.

Hours after the shooting, Governor Rick Perry had this to say...
Governor Perry said this afternoon his thoughts and prayers are with all the victims, but that anyone licensed and who has training on how to carry a weapon should be able to carry that weapon anywhere within the state and [that he would] indeed review the bill that’s been filed quickly. …. We talked to Ted Poe from the north Houston area, who said students today were defenseless on that campus.
So let's break this down.

According to Gov. Perry, pictured right, and those who are able to think like him, in order to solve the problem of two guys arguing and breaking out guns in a gun free zone we need to eliminate gun free zones and encourage everyone to be armed. I'm assuming that this tactic is considered a good one because no one will then know who is armed and will, therefore, be deterred from drawing their weapon.  Or if they do, everyone else will break out their six shooters, draw down on the Recalcitrant One and take care of the situation, cross fire be damned.

I only assume Governor Perry thinks this way because I can't. I tend to think that if these two guys wouldn't have had guns or if guns were a little harder to obtain or carry, chances are that one or both of them wouldn't have been packing and instead of settling their argument with lead, they may have resorted to fisticuffs instead.

But that's my liberal mind. I also happen to think that the President is a U.S. citizen, there are no "death panels" and Fox News is not fair and balanced.

Crazy, I know.

That is simply naive. One of the men had murderous intent. Not the intent to deliver a black eye or broken nose, but MURDER. I know this does not jibe with fauxgressive theology, but murders do not occur because a school-yard fist-fight got out of hand. They happen because among our society, for a variety of reasons, murderous predators exist. England with its gun bans may have a low gun murder rate, but the UK murder rate is still high because men will find ways to kill each other with knives, pipes, bricks, broken glass, you name it. Look at gun-free US prisons.

We may never know all the facts, but most likely one of the men drew their gun first with criminal murderous intent. In your world, that would have been a knife, and the victim is condemned to having his throat cut, but that is for the greater good to eliminate the chance of cross-fire?

"But that's my liberal mind"

You are no liberal. You are a "progressive", and probably don't know the difference. Here's a hint: the exercise of freedoms by your fellow citizens scares you.
