February 2nd will be a day that Victoria Zavala suffers through the rest of her entire life.BOYNTON BEACH — Boynton Beach Police are investigating a double-murder and suicide that happened early this morning when a man killed his two children and then shot himself.
According to police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater, officers responded to the 400 block of Southwest 8th Avenue in the city about 1:50 a.m. when Victoria Flores Zavala, 36, reported that her husband had killed their children.
Arriving officers found one child dead in a back patio area and another in the kitchen/dining room area, Slater said.
The father, Isidro Zavala, 45, was also found in the kitchen, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Slater said Isidro Zavala and his wife were separated. He did not live at the house.
His wife told police she was watching TV when she heard commotion in the house. She went to see about her children and found Isidro choking one of their sons. The woman said she tried fighting him and begged him to kill her instead of the children, but he refused. He told her she would stay alive and suffer the loss of her family. [SFDB emphasis]
The two children have been identified as 12-year-old Eduardo Zavala and 11-year-old Mario Zavala.

Further proof: the only defense against a bad guy with a gun is a good woman and two pre-teens with guns. Hard to believe in this day and age that a mother would sit in front of a teevee in her own living room at 1:30 am without an armed weapon within immediate reach, but some people simply won't take responsibility for their own safety. When will you learn to love your children, America?
